Questions:
1. Tell us about who your character is and what someone’s first impression would be upon meeting them. How would your character act once someone got to know them?
Elsa is someone who has had a prolonged internal conflict between her desire to explore the world and uncover the truth about her powers, and her responsibilities as the protector of Arendelle. She has grown to feel a strong pull toward self-discovery and adventure, driven by curiosity and the need to understand her place in the world. At the same time, she is deeply committed to her people and feels the weight of their safety and well-being. This tension shapes her journey, as she must balance following her own path with honoring her duty, ultimately learning that embracing her true self can also help her serve others.
On first meeting Elsa, someone might say that she is elegant, composed, and a bit distant. She might come across as strong and confident, if somewhat distant, with a quiet intensity that hints at hidden depths. They would likely feel she is both graceful and driven by a certain seriousness; that Elsa is surrounded by a subtle air of mystery.
As they got to know her, though, Elsa's warmth would gradually begin to show through. Her rare moments of self-indulgence and playfulness, often masked in her official duties, show through. And while she might still not openly show the conflict within her, she is more open about her thoughts, doubts, and worries.
2. What is something unique and interesting about them, or what is a fun little tidbit that sets them apart from the crowd?
Well, there are the whole ice powers, having been a queen of a sovereign nation, and even being the Fifth spirit that was destined to reunite and see over the others. But a little overlooked fact is Elsa's artistic ability and her job at getting to enjoy and celebrate little moments without formality. As seen in the way she changes the cake topper on the cake from the formal poses of her and Anna to the two of them skating, and in the various designs of her clothes, and even the ice castle she created. All of which are well crafted with a wonderfully artistic eye.
3. What does your character think their flaws are? What do they think their strengths are? What are their actual flaws and strengths?
For the majority of her life, Elsa feels that her powers are beyond her control, that they are a flaw. That her lack of understanding and control of them makes her a danger to those whom she cares for and loves. She also struggles with feeling different and not fully understanding who she is, which leads her to doubt herself and withdraw from people. Feeling torn between her desire to explore and her people. Though that is resolved by the end of the second Movie.
One of Elsa’s key flaws is her belief that she is solely responsible for protecting others and controlling every outcome. She feels the weight of her powers and her role as a leader so heavily that she often isolates herself, believing she must handle everything alone. This sense of sole responsibility makes her hesitant to ask for help or share her burdens, which can create emotional distance from those who care about her.
Her strengths lie in her courage, intelligence, and self-awareness. She is brave, willing to face the unknown and confront challenges that others might shy away from. Her intelligence and resourcefulness allow her to understand and control her magical powers, as well as navigate difficult situations. Elsa is also highly self-aware and introspective, which helps her recognize her fears and work through them.
4. What is a common misconception other characters have about your character? A common misconception about Elsa is that she is cold, distant, or unfeeling because of her reserved and serious demeanor. Many people might assume she is aloof or detached from others, when in reality, she is deeply caring, empathetic, and protective. Her caution and tendency to isolate herself stem from fear of hurting others with her powers, not from a lack of warmth or emotion.
Character Abilities:
The Fifth Spirit: Elsa has a magic connection with the four elemental spirits, and an ability to sense when they are nearby.
Cryokinesis: Elsa is able to control and manipulate ice and snow. From being able to make small isolated instances of snow to constructing large structures from ice.
Control over Water: Elsa demonstrates the ability to control water, both by freezing it and by interacting with the water spirit Nokk.
Past Visions: Elsa can freeze water droplets to create icy visions of past events, revealing hidden details about the forest and her parents. Essentially unlocking the memories trapped in the water.
